Acer is doubling down on the burgeoning AI PC segment in India with the official rollout of the Aspire 5 AI. Starting at Rs 79,999, the device is a clear attempt to move AI-accelerated hardware out of the high-end enthusiast bracket and into the hands of students and corporate professionals who need more than just a standard productivity machine.
The core of the Aspire 5 AI is the Intel Core Ultra processor. Unlike previous generations that relied primarily on the CPU and GPU for heavy lifting, these chips integrate a Neural Processing Unit (NPU). This dedicated silicon is designed specifically to handle AI workloads—such as background blur in video calls, real-time noise cancellation, and local LLM execution—without draining the battery as quickly as a traditional GPU would. By offloading these tasks to the NPU, Acer is promising a device that maintains performance without the thermal throttling often seen in thin-and-light chassis.
Balancing mobility and specifications
From a hardware perspective, Acer hasn’t skimped on the essentials required to support AI software.
