RedMagic doubles down on high-refresh displays for its next gaming slab

Nubia is preparing to push the boundaries of mobile gaming hardware once again. The company has officially confirmed via Weibo that the RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro will make its debut in China on June 30. While full internal specifications remain under wraps, the lead-up to the event has been marked by a series of strategic leaks and official store listings that paint a picture of a device designed for the most demanding competitive gamers.

The launch event is scheduled for 3:00 PM local time in China, with pre-reservations already live on JD.com and the official RedMagic online storefront. This aggressive pre-launch strategy suggests that Nubia is confident in the device’s ability to disrupt the high-end Android tablet market, which has long been dominated by general-purpose devices from Samsung and Apple.

A display built for competitive edge

The centerpiece of the RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro is undoubtedly its screen. According to official teasers, the device will feature a 9.06-inch OLED panel. While OLED is standard for premium tablets, RedMagic is pushing the refresh rate to an unprecedented 185Hz. This exceeds the 120Hz or 144Hz benchmarks common in the industry, theoretically offering smoother motion and reduced input lag for fast-paced titles like Genshin Impact or PUBG Mobile.

To achieve this, the company claims to have utilized an upgraded “X10 luminescent material,” which reportedly allows the panel to hit a peak brightness of 1600 nits. This makes the tablet viable for outdoor use or high-contrast HDR gaming without the washed-out effect typical of lower-end panels.

The hardware beneath the glass is equally specialized. The tablet incorporates a Synaptics S3930 touch controller chip, a component typically reserved for high-end peripherals. This enables a 2000Hz instantaneous refresh rate and a 300Hz multi-finger native touch sampling rate, ensuring that the gap between a user’s physical touch and the on-screen action is virtually nonexistent.

The “Gamer” Aesthetic: RGB and Silver Finishes

Visually, the RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro isn’t trying to blend in. The device will be available in two distinct colorways: a stealthy black and a sleek silver. Consistent with the RedMagic brand identity, the tablet integrates RGB LED lighting, signaling its status as a gaming-first machine rather than a productivity tool.

A signature red physical button remains on the side of the chassis—a carryover from previous iterations—likely serving as a dedicated trigger or a shortcut to the device’s gaming center. The overall design language suggests that Nubia is leaning into the “gamer” aesthetic, catering to an audience that prefers bold hardware over the minimalist approach of the iPad Pro or Galaxy Tab S series.

While the processor and RAM configurations haven’t been explicitly detailed in the pre-reservation listings, industry expectations point toward the latest Snapdragon 8-series silicon and a robust vapor chamber cooling system to prevent thermal throttling during the 185Hz peak performance modes. With the June 30 event approaching, the industry is watching to see if RedMagic can translate these raw display specs into a cohesive, high-performance user experience.
