The move signals a strategic shift for OnePlus. While the Pad 4 and the mid-range Pad Go 2 both leaned heavily on LCD technology—suitable for productivity but lacking the deep blacks and contrast of self-emissive pixels—this upcoming device is designed for high-end consumption and portability. The rumored specifications point to an 8.8-inch OLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate, a combination that would make it one of the most responsive small-form-factor tablets available globally.
The Oppo Connection
Experienced followers of the BBK Electronics ecosystem will notice a familiar pattern here. The leaked specifications for the rumored OnePlus device are nearly identical to those of the Oppo Pad Mini. This is not surprising; OnePlus and Oppo share deep architectural and supply chain ties, often rebranding hardware for different markets or target demographics to maximize scale.
If the device is indeed a rebranded Oppo Pad Mini, OnePlus is essentially outsourcing the hardware development to leverage Oppo’s existing tooling. However, the software experience will likely be the key differentiator.
