OnePlus is reportedly prepping a compact OLED tablet to fill the ‘Mini’ gap in India

A Pivot Toward the Small-Screen Experience
OnePlus has spent the last year doubling down on the ‘productivity’ side of the tablet market, recently launching the flagship Pad 4 in India with a massive 13.2-inch 3.4K LCD. While the scale of the Pad 4 caters to users looking for laptop replacements, there has been a persistent, underserved demand for a high-performance, small-form-factor tablet—a gap that Apple has long dominated with the iPad Mini.
According to recent leaks from industry tipster Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd) on X, OnePlus is preparing to pivot. The company is reportedly planning the launch of a new, more compact member of the Pad family in India, marking a significant departure from the LCD panels used in the Pad 4 and the mid-range Pad Go 2.
The Oppo Connection: Rebranding or Parallel Development?
The most striking detail of the leak is the hardware profile. The purported specifications for this upcoming device are nearly identical to those of the Oppo Pad Mini. Given that OnePlus and Oppo share a deep architectural and corporate relationship under the BBK Electronics umbrella, this suggests a strategic rebranding move rather than a ground-up design.
If the leak holds true, the device will feature an 8.8-inch OLED display. This is a critical upgrade over the current lineup; OLED technology allows for deeper blacks and significantly better contrast, which is particularly appealing for media consumption and gaming in a handheld format. To keep the experience fluid, the screen is expected to support a 144Hz refresh rate, aligning it with the high-speed standards set by the larger OnePlus Pad models.
High-End Silicon and the Android 16 Gamble
While the size is compact, the internals appear to be anything but. The leaked specs point toward the inclusion of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. This would place the tablet in the upper echelon of mobile computing power, making it an attractive option for enthusiasts who find 13-inch tablets too cumbersome for gaming but find current ‘mini’ tablets underpowered.
Supporting this processor is the expected use of LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, ensuring the device can handle heavy multitasking and rapid data transfer. Perhaps more surprising is the mention of Android 16. If the device ships with this version, it would be one of the first consumer tablets to debut the next iteration of Google’s OS, though the exact timing of the rollout remains unconfirmed by OnePlus.
Filling the Portfolio Gap
For OnePlus, the introduction of a compact OLED tablet is a logical step in diversifying its ecosystem. By offering a 13-inch productivity powerhouse, a mid-range ‘Go’ option, and now a high-performance mini, the brand is essentially mirroring the tiered strategy of the tablet market’s incumbents.
The challenge will be pricing. Positioning a device with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and an OLED panel requires a premium price point, but if OnePlus can undercut the iPad Mini while providing a superior display and faster refresh rate, they may find a strong foothold in the Indian market where value-to-performance ratios are heavily scrutinized.
OnePlus has not officially commented on the leak, and until a formal announcement is made, the existence of a ‘OnePlus Pad Mini’ remains speculative. However, the alignment with Oppo’s existing hardware suggests that the blueprints are already finalized, and a launch in India could be imminent.
