A Return to Large-Scale Mobility
While the industry has spent the last few years obsessed with the fold, Acer is betting on the sheer scale of the traditional slate. At Computex 2026, the company unveiled a refreshed Iconia Duo lineup that pushes the boundaries of tablet dimensions, headlined by a massive 14.2-inch flagship designed to bridge the gap between a portable tablet and a laptop replacement.
The move signals a strategic pivot for Acer, moving away from niche experimental form factors and toward a tiered productivity ecosystem. By offering three distinct models—the S14, S12, and D12—Acer is attempting to capture three different segments: the high-end creative professional, the mobile executive, and the budget-conscious student.
The S14: Pushing the OLED Boundary
The centerpiece of the announcement is the Iconia Duo S14. In an era where 11-inch screens are the standard, Acer’s 14.2-inch OLED panel is a statement of intent. The display boasts a resolution of 2880 x 1840 with a 120Hz refresh rate, adhering to a 3:2 aspect ratio that is significantly more useful for document editing and coding than the traditional 16:9 widescreen format.
Under the hood, the S14 eschews Qualcomm’s Snapdragon series in favor of the MediaTek Dimensity 8300. While MediaTek has traditionally been viewed as a mid-range provider, the 8300 series has shown significant gains in efficiency and multi-core performance, making it a viable engine for a productivity-first device. The S14 pairs this with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage.
To support the power-hungry OLED panel, Acer has packed a 10,000 mAh battery into the chassis. Connectivity is surprisingly robust for a tablet, featuring dual USB-C ports—a rare inclusion that allows for simultaneous charging and peripheral connection without the need for a cumbersome dongle. It also supports stylus input, positioning it as a direct competitor to the larger iPad Pro and Samsung Galaxy Tab S series.
Scaling Down: The S12 and D12
For those who find the S14 too cumbersome, the Iconia Duo S12 serves as the mid-tier alternative. It retains the premium OLED technology but shrinks the footprint to 12.2 inches. Interestingly, the S12 actually outperforms the S14 in peak brightness, reaching 600 nits compared to the S14’s 400 nits, making it a better choice for those working in brightly lit environments or outdoors.
The S12 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7400, a chipset that balances performance with thermal management. It mirrors the S14’s storage and RAM configurations (up to 8GB/256GB) and utilizes an 8,000 mAh battery.
Then there is the Iconia Duo D12, which strips away the OLED luxuries to hit a more aggressive price point. This model uses a standard 12.2-inch LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate and a lower resolution of 2400 x 1600. The internals shift to the budget-friendly MediaTek Helio G99, a reliable but aging processor that prioritizes battery life over raw speed. Weighing in at just 620 grams, the D12 is the most portable of the trio, though it sacrifices the quad-speaker setup and high-end cameras found in the S-series.
The MediaTek Gamble
The most telling detail of this launch is Acer’s total commitment to MediaTek across the entire range. By avoiding the premium tax associated with high-end Snapdragon chips, Acer can either undercut the competition on price or invest more into the display hardware. However, the success of the S14 will depend on how well the Dimensity 8300 handles heavy multitasking and whether Acer provides a robust software layer to make a 14-inch Android tablet feel like a computer rather than just a giant phone.
Acer has yet to announce official pricing or regional availability, but the hardware specifications suggest a wide pricing bracket that could start as low as $299 for the D12 and climb well above $700 for the S14.
