Nokia Revives the ‘Dumbphone’ with a Twist: New 4G Feature Phones Get Dedicated AI Buttons
HMD's Nokia brand refreshes its feature phone lineup with 4G connectivity and a surprising new AI assistant button for voice commands.

The Return of the Tactile Keypad, Now with AI
In an era dominated by generative AI and bezel-less glass slabs, Nokia is leaning into the ‘digital detox’ trend with a surprising hardware update. The company has unveiled a quartet of new 4G-enabled feature phones—the Nokia 235 4G (2026), 215 4G (2026), 210 4G, and 200 4G. While these devices maintain the classic utilitarian aesthetic the brand is known for, they introduce a peculiar modern addition: a dedicated AI assistant button.
This hardware shift suggests that Nokia is attempting to bridge the gap between the simplicity of a ‘dumbphone’ and the utility of modern voice interfaces. The AI button allows users to trigger voice commands to perform basic tasks—such as activating the flashlight, setting alarms or reminders, and initiating calls to specific contacts—without navigating through layers of menus. It is a pragmatic approach to accessibility in a segment of the market that usually ignores innovation.
Tiered Hardware: From Basic Utility to Multimedia
The new lineup is split into two distinct tiers based on display and camera capabilities. At the higher end, the Nokia 235 4G (2026) and 215 4G (2026) feature larger 2.8-inch IPS displays with QVGA resolution, offering significantly better viewing angles and color reproduction than standard LCDs. The 235 model is the most capable of the group, sporting a 2-megapixel rear camera with an LED flash and a VGA front camera for basic selfies.
The more compact Nokia 210 4G and 200 4G pivot toward a smaller footprint, utilizing 2.4-inch QVGA displays. These models are designed for those who prioritize portability over screen real estate. The 210 includes a VGA rear camera with flash, while the 200 is stripped down even further, focusing primarily on communication and voice tasks.
Technical Specifications and Connectivity
Across the board, all four devices run on the S30+ operating system, a lightweight platform designed for efficiency over complexity. To keep the devices viable in a world where 2G and 3G networks are being decommissioned, Nokia has equipped every model with 4G LTE connectivity across multiple bands.
- Battery Life: All models share a removable 1,450mAh battery. The 235 and 215 models are rated for up to 10 hours of talk time and 12 days of standby, while the 210 and 200 are slightly more efficient, offering up to 13 days of standby.
- Storage: Internal storage is modest at 128MB, supported by 64MB of RAM. However, all models include a microSD slot expanding up to 32GB, essential for those using these devices as dedicated music players.
- Modern I/O: In a welcome update, Nokia has moved to USB Type-C for charging and data transfer, moving away from the aging micro-USB standard.
- Audio: All devices retain the 3.5mm headphone jack and feature FM radio with both wired and wireless modes.
Positioning in a Saturated Market
These devices enter a market where ‘minimalist phones’ are becoming a status symbol for professionals looking to reduce screen time. By adding 4G and an AI assistant, Nokia is ensuring these phones aren’t just nostalgia pieces, but functional tools that can survive in current network environments.
The inclusion of Bluetooth 5.0 also allows these phones to act as secondary companions to smartphones, handling calls and music while the primary device remains tucked away. While pricing and specific regional availability have not yet been officially announced, the devices are already listed on Nokia’s official website, indicating a rollout to select global markets is imminent.
