According to a report from the South Korean industry publication The Elec, the company intends to equip the entire upcoming Galaxy S27 series with its “Privacy Display” technology. This would mark a departure from the current tiered approach, where cutting-edge display enhancements are typically reserved for the most expensive Ultra models.
The Privacy Display feature is specifically designed to combat “shoulder surfing”—the act of strangers glancing at a user’s screen in public spaces. By manipulating the light emission or utilizing a specialized layer within the panel, the display limits the viewing angles, making the screen appear dark or distorted to anyone not looking directly at the device from the front. While this technology appeared in the Galaxy S26 Ultra, its expansion to the base models suggests Samsung is prioritizing digital privacy as a core selling point rather than a luxury add-on.
The Emergence of the S27 Pro
The leak also sheds light on a potential restructuring of Samsung’s flagship hierarchy. While the S26 series followed the traditional three-model cadence, the S27 lineup is expected to expand into four distinct variants: the standard Galaxy S27, the S27+, a new Galaxy S27 Pro, and the top-tier S27 Ultra.
The introduction of a “Pro” model typically suggests a gap-fill strategy, offering a device that sits between the Plus and Ultra models. This allows Samsung to capture users who want more advanced capabilities than the S27+ provides but aren’t interested in the massive footprint or the integrated stylus of the Ultra. The fact that the Privacy Display is slated for the Pro model is not surprising, but its inclusion in the base S27 and S27+ indicates a desire to keep the entire ecosystem competitive against rivals like Apple and Google, who are increasingly integrating AI-driven security features into their mid-range flagships.
Hardware Refinements and the Camera Question
Beyond the display, internal sources suggest Samsung is eyeing a hardware refresh for the front-facing cameras.
