    Scaling Up: The 100-Inch Ambition

Hisense is making a calculated bet on the ‘bigger is better’ trend in the Indian home entertainment market. With the launch of the U7SE ULED Mini-LED series, the company isn’t just offering another set of screen sizes; it is aggressively pushing the envelope with a massive 100-inch flagship option, alongside more traditional 55, 65, 75, and 85-inch variants.

The move signals a shift in how global manufacturers view the Indian consumer. For years, the 55-to-65-inch range was the ceiling for most premium buyers. By introducing a 100-inch panel, Hisense is attempting to disrupt the home cinema niche, traditionally dominated by high-end projectors or prohibitively expensive laser TVs, by providing a Mini-LED alternative that offers higher brightness and better contrast than traditional LED-LCDs.

Technical Breakdown: Mini-LED and Gaming Performance

At the heart of the U7SE is the ULED Mini-LED backlighting system. Unlike standard LEDs, Mini-LEDs allow for much tighter control over local dimming zones. This reduces the ‘blooming’ effect—where light leaks from bright objects into dark areas—resulting in deeper blacks and a more cinematic contrast ratio that brings the series closer to OLED performance without the risk of permanent burn-in.

For the gaming community, the headline feature is the 144Hz refresh rate. While 120Hz has become the standard for PS5 and Xbox Series X, the jump to 144Hz caters specifically to PC gamers who want a seamless transition from their monitors to their living room. This high refresh rate, paired with HDMI 2.1 support, ensures that high-frame-rate titles remain fluid and devoid of screen tearing.

Audio is handled by a built-in subwoofer tuned by Devialet. Integrating a high-fidelity audio partner like Devialet suggests Hisense is trying to eliminate the immediate need for a separate soundbar for the average user, aiming for a ‘plug-and-play’ premium experience.

    The Ecosystem and Market Positioning

Interestingly, Hisense continues to lean on its proprietary VIDAA smart TV platform rather than pivoting entirely to Google TV or Android TV for this series. While VIDAA is often praised for its speed and lean interface, it occasionally lacks the sheer app volume found in the Google ecosystem. However, the inclusion of hands-free voice controls suggests a push toward a more integrated, ambient smart-home experience.

The pricing strategy is where Hisense is attempting to undercut established rivals like Samsung and Sony. Starting at an introductory price of Rs. 63,990 for the 55-inch model, the U7SE positions itself as a high-spec alternative for those who want premium Mini-LED tech without the ‘brand tax’ associated with top-tier Korean or Japanese labels.

    Retail Strategy and Availability

Rather than relying solely on e-commerce giants, Hisense is deploying a heavy offline retail strategy for the U7SE. The series is rolling out through established regional partners including Satya, Nandilath, MyG, Great Eastern, Patra Electronics, and Khosla. This focus on brick-and-mortar stores is a strategic necessity for the 85-inch and 100-inch models; consumers are far less likely to purchase a massive, fragile screen without seeing the panel quality and scale in person.

To incentivize early adoption, the company is offering cashback deals up to Rs. 10,000 and discounts reaching 40 percent on specific configurations, alongside zero-down-payment financing options to make the larger, more expensive panels more accessible to the middle-market consumer.
