Sony Double-Downs on Premium LED Performance in India

Sony has officially expanded its luxury display portfolio in India with the launch of the Bravia 9 and Bravia 7 series. While the industry has seen a massive pivot toward OLED and Mini-LED, Sony is positioning these new models as a sophisticated alternative for users who demand extreme brightness and color accuracy without compromising on the longevity and scale of LED panels.

The centerpiece of the rollout is the Bravia 9 series, which is designed to push the boundaries of backlight control. The series utilizes Sony’s proprietary RGB Backlight Master Drive Pro, a system aimed at eliminating the “blooming” effect often seen in high-contrast LED screens. By coordinating a dense array of LEDs with precision, Sony is attempting to mimic the per-pixel control of OLED while maintaining the searing peak brightness required for bright Indian living rooms.

Driving the experience is the Cognitive Processor XR. Unlike standard AI upscaling, the XR processor is designed to mimic human perception, analyzing where the human eye naturally focuses in a scene to enhance depth and contrast dynamically. This hardware remains the backbone of Sony’s image processing, ensuring that content from various sources—be it 4K streaming or legacy cable TV—is optimized for the high-resolution panels.

    Diversifying the Luxury Tier

While the Bravia 9 serves as the flagship, the Bravia 7 series provides a slightly more accessible entry point into Sony’s high-end ecosystem. Both lineups lean heavily into the “True RGB” display technology, which avoids the white-subpixel compromises found in many budget LED sets, resulting in more saturated and accurate color reproduction.

Audio is another area where Sony is attempting to differentiate these sets. Both models feature Acoustic Multi-Audio+, a system that attempts to map the sound to the action on screen, effectively turning the display itself into a speaker. For cinephiles, the inclusion of IMAX Enhanced, Dolby Vision, and DTS:X ensures these TVs are compatible with the highest current home theater standards.

Pricing and Availability in the Indian Market

Sony’s pricing strategy for this rollout confirms a clear focus on the ultra-premium segment. The Bravia 9 is positioned as a prestige product, with the 75-inch model retailing at ₹8,39,900 and the massive 85-inch variant priced at ₹9,89,900. These models are scheduled to hit retail channels on June 29.

The Bravia 7 series offers a broader range of sizes to capture a wider audience. The 55-inch entry model starts at ₹3,59,900, scaling up to ₹4,39,900 for the 65-inch and ₹6,19,900 for the 75-inch. The 85-inch version sits at the top of this range at ₹7,19,900. Unlike the flagship Bravia 9, the Bravia 7 models are already available for purchase across Sony’s authorized dealer network and online platforms.
