Sony targets India’s premium home cinema market with Bravia 7II rollout

A strategic push into the high-end living room
Sony has officially expanded its premium display footprint in India with the launch of the Bravia 7II series. While the brand has long maintained a stronghold in the high-fidelity audio and gaming sectors, the 7II lineup represents a concerted effort to capture the growing appetite for massive, cinema-grade screens in Indian households. The series arrives in a wide array of sizes—55, 65, 75, and 85 inches—with a flagship 98-inch variant slated for a later release.
The pricing strategy reflects Sony’s positioning as a luxury tier alternative to the more aggressive pricing seen from brands like Samsung and LG. The 55-inch model is entering the market at Rs. 2,21,990 (down from an MRP of Rs. 3,59,900), while the 65-inch variant is priced at Rs. 2,74,990 (MRP Rs. 4,39,900). These prices place the 7II firmly in the enthusiast category, targeting users who prioritize color accuracy and processing power over sheer value.
The silicon behind the picture
At the heart of the Bravia 7II is the Cognitive Processor XR, Sony’s proprietary chipset designed to mimic how humans perceive images. Rather than applying a blanket sharpen or contrast filter, the XR processor analyzes the focal point of the screen to optimize depth and clarity in real-time. This is paired with Sony’s True RGB LED technology, which aims to eliminate the common ‘wash out’ effect seen in lower-end LED panels, ensuring that saturation remains natural even at higher brightness levels.
The integration of Google TV remains central to the user experience, providing a familiar interface and deep app ecosystem. However, the more interesting development is the promised software update that will bring Gemini for Google TV to the 7II lineup. By integrating Google’s latest LLM, Sony is moving toward a more conversational interface where users can ask for complex content recommendations or detailed summaries of shows without needing to navigate through multiple menu layers.
Availability and scale
Sony is currently managing the rollout through a pre-booking phase on its official Indian website and the ShopatSC portal. While the 55 and 65-inch models are the immediate focus, the 75 and 85-inch variants are expected to hit retail shelves by the end of this month. Pricing for these larger panels has not yet been disclosed, though they typically carry a significant premium over the 65-inch base.
The most ambitious offering, the 98-inch model, is scheduled for a late-July arrival. The push toward nearly 100-inch displays suggests that Sony is betting on the ‘home cinema’ trend, where consumers are replacing traditional projectors with ultra-large LED panels that offer better ambient light performance.
