A stealthy adjustment in the mid-range market

Xiaomi has quietly adjusted the pricing of its Xiaomi Pad 8 across the Indian market, implementing a flat increase across its entire tablet lineup. The move, which happened without an official announcement or press release, sees the device’s cost rise by ₹2,000 across all available RAM and storage configurations.

For a device that only hit the shelves in March, this relatively quick price correction is an unusual move. Typically, Android tablets see price decays over time as newer models loom or competitors launch aggressive discounting campaigns. However, Xiaomi is betting that the Pad 8’s specific hardware profile—particularly its high-resolution display and chipset—maintains enough value to justify a premium over its launch MSRP.

    The new cost breakdown

The pricing shift affects every entry point for the device. The base model, featuring 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, has moved from its launch price of ₹33,999 to a new sticker price of ₹35,999.

Those looking for the higher-tier 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant will now pay ₹38,999, up from the previous ₹36,999. This price creep also extends to the bundled offerings; the version that includes the Xiaomi Focus Pen Pro has jumped from ₹41,999 to ₹43,999.

    8GB / 128GB₹33,999₹35,999+₹2,000
    12GB / 256GB₹36,999₹38,999+₹2,000
    12GB + Focus Pen Pro₹41,999₹43,999+₹2,000

    Evaluating the hardware value proposition

To understand why Xiaomi feels confident raising prices, one has to look at the silicon. The Xiaomi Pad 8 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 (often mislabeled as Gen 4 in early leaks), a chip designed to bring flagship-adjacent performance to more affordable devices without the thermal overhead of the top-tier 8 Gen 3. This makes it a potent tool for both gaming and productivity, filling a gap between entry-level tablets and the prohibitively expensive Pro models.

The visual experience remains the primary draw, featuring an 11.2-inch screen with a 3.2K resolution. With a 144Hz refresh rate, the fluidity of the interface is on par with high-end gaming monitors, which is a significant advantage over many competitors in the ₹30,000 to ₹40,000 bracket.

Under the hood, the 9,200mAh battery remains a strong point, though the 45W fast charging support is starting to look modest compared to some of the ultra-fast charging standards seen in Xiaomi’s own smartphone lineup. The 13-megapixel rear camera is functional, but as with most tablets, it remains a secondary feature rather than a selling point.

    Market positioning and competitive pressure

This price hike pushes the Xiaomi Pad 8 closer to the territory of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S series’ fan editions and higher-end Lenovo Tab offerings. By moving the base price to nearly ₹36,000, Xiaomi is narrowing the gap between the Pad 8 and the high-end ‘Pro’ versions of its own ecosystem.

While the hardware remains impressive, the value proposition is now slightly more nuanced. For users who prioritize the 144Hz display and the efficiency of the Snapdragon 8s series, the ₹2,000 jump may be negligible. However, for budget-conscious students or casual users, this move might make the previous generation or rival tablets more attractive as the ‘sweet spot’ for mid-range tablet pricing shifts upward.
